FR: Add Additional UserCommandName & UserCommandTask Options

I love the ability to have little scripts or commands that users can run themselves. We currently have a number of helpful apps we've created in house for troubleshooting wifi and other common issues and it would be AWESOME if we could save our users a couple steps by shifting these to additional NoMAD menu items.

Given that this list could get a bit extensive for us and others if implemented, I'm wondering if there's also a way to add additional menu item sections.

We've always thought people would want to use additional commands...

To that end a couple of questions:

• Are these all scripts, apps, or a combination?
• How many total are you thinking?
• Would you want to know if a person is signed in to AD, online, other information? As in some scripts would only be available if AD was reachable.

Ideally we'd probably look at having a pull out menu where you could list multiple actions. This would probably similar to the file shares menu we have in the 1.1 beta.

• It would be a mix of apps and scripts. At the moment for our UserCommandTask1 I just launch our custom wifi troubleshooting app by running open /Applications/Wifi\ FirstAid.app. We use a tool called outset to run a number of scripts once at login, but also have items in Self Service to rerun them in the event something goes wrong, or they want to reset their Dock to the default settings. We also have a few online resources that we want everyone to have access to, which we currently accomplish by configuring a default list of Google Chrome bookmarks.

• For our purposes I was thinking at least 5

1. Troubleshooting Wifi (launches custom app for troubleshooting common wifi issues)
2. Student / Faculty Portal (this we'd configure in different profiles)
3. Fix My Dock (for resetting the Dock to default, which we have currently in Self Service)
4. Tech Resources & Docs (our central tech documentation & help page)
5. Submit a Work Order (our online work order system for easier access by Faculty)

I'm very open to the concept. I'll keep this open with a Future milestone on it and see where we can work this in.

I would probably approach this as a separate plist item, just to keep the standard NoMAD one more clean. And then use the existing methods and systems we have for the GetHelp menu.

mactroll 11:10 PM so… a pull out menu 11:10 which would hold all of the custom items you want 11:10 top half of the list would be solid black text for commands that do things 11:10 you specify the command, the name and the action 11:11 bottom half would be grey text 11:11 that would be the result of whatever your script/app returns 11:11 we’d run these at the same frequency we check AD connections

Working on this now... as I like the idea of this method to handle more custom tasks. Will be very similar to the file shares in version 1.1
