Joel, Im seeing the same thing with 1.1 using user template. I have crash logs if you need to see them.

Yes. Show it only when clicking, or in the menu bar if the countdown is below the set threshold (15 days, or 7 days).

Are you just looking to hide the countdown in the menu bar from the user?

If you're updating the plist manually, via a text editor for example, you'll need to kill cfprefsd to get the changes to take....
