Searching doesn't work when the main activity has been recreated.
If Android forces the main FDroid activity to be recreated, then searching no longer works. This will happen if you close F-Droid and return after some time using other apps, in which case the system will have reclaimed the resources used by F-Droid. Another way to force this to be reproduced is to open up the Android settings and navigate to "Developer Options" -> "Don't Keep Activities". This will force Android to always destroy F-Droid activities when navigating away. So you can then reproduce by:
- Opening F-Droid
- Doing a search (should work)
- Returning to your devices home screen
- Opening F-Droid again
- Doing a search (should fail)
