Default feature image color takes too long to load and often fails

Is there any way to improve the performance of this? If there is a still a delay, we could display a default color immediately as a placeholder.

Yup, I've noticed this too. Had a look and I think I've fixed it in !434 (merged). I'm going to leave this open and attached to %0.103 - UX Overhaul so that we can ensure that it is indeed fixed once that code gets merged.
