Sardinian does not appear in the language list anymore (the translation is 100% complete)

What did you do? (clear steps if possible)

I updated the app from version 0.102.3 to 0.103-alpha3, and then tried to use it in my native language (Sardinian).

What did you expect to see?

The same situation as before, until 0.102.3: the app was working fine, was completely translated and I could find Sardinian in the language list.

What did you see instead?

The app (updating from a version where I choose that language) seemed to work fine, initially, but then started switching to English every time I opened and closed the Settings. I had to turn it off and on again every time. The language is not on the list anymore (it looks like I have none of the option on the list selected), and after trying to change to another one I had to reinstall 0.102.3 to get it back.

Actually it's not exactly the same. There is also the problem of the language not appearing in the list at all.

The Language menu is a giant hack that is hard to support, so its actually been entirely hidden when F-Droid is running on Android 7.x. The new built-in Locale List setting handles setting langauges much better without hacks. Set your device to use Sardinian, and you'll get the language with F-Droid.

If you want to use languages that are not supported by the system, then really the correct way to get this fixed is to contribute Sardinian support to Android itself. Then it'll work for all apps without hacks.

That said on Android older than 7.x, I'll re-add Sardinian to the Languages preference.

Unfortunately I tried to ask for a Sardinian localization on the old Google Code issue page, but I didn't get any answer. Do you know what the procedure to start a new localization is? Also, what do you mean with "hard to support"? Didn't it work fine until 0.102.3?

it didn't work fine for all people, but glad to hear it worked for you. They recently moved their bug tracker for Android, but the old google code one was the main active bug tracker for Android up until a couple months ago. As for getting them to response, you need to get lots of people to star the issue for them to pay attention.

Even better would be to submit code to the Android gerrit code submission system. And again, you'll need to basically lobby Google to get them to do it.

Sardinian should be a lot easier than others they recently added since it uses a latin alphabet. Tibetan required whole new font handling routines.

@eighthave I've tried 0.103.2 on my tablet, but even if it's Android 6.0.1 Sardinian does not appear.

@eighthave Same with 1.0-alpha0 on my phone (Android 6.0.1).

if your phone is set to Sardinian, then Sardinian will not show up in the Languages menu.

Is set to Italian.
