GitHub migration fails and manual mirror fails with redis-cli returned 127

Description of the problem
Importing a repository from GitHub with about 1000 PRs (mostly merged and therefore deleted branches) fails. When doing this through gitlab.com, it simply shows as failed. I tried to do a mirror using git push --mirror
but received the error `remote: GitLab: An Unexpected error occurred (redis-cli returned 127).
The output of the mirror included a ton of new branch lines for the refs such as refs/pull/999/head -> refs/pull/999/head
.
I'm guessing the same error is occurring when doing the import on gitlab.com through the UI, but since there is no error given other than failed
, I can't know for sure.
