PowerShell syntax highlighting
Hello, we have a GitLab platform installed for versioning a lot of code in different programming languages in our company.
We found a problem with syntax highlighting in PowerShell scripts.
A few month ago, I think it works. Is there any way to activate it easily without having troubles while updating to the next versions of GitLab?

This is a problem we're aware of and want to fix, but we're currently transitioning between syntax highlighting backends so it's not yet clear when this will be resolved. There's some discussion at https://github.com/gitlabhq/gitlabhq/pull/9341
Basic Powershell support is already in Rouge and can be used by adding a file to your Gitlab instance.

Change line 3 from "Rouge" to "Rugments", then copy into /opt/gitlab/embedded/service/gem/ruby/2.1.0/gems/rugments-1.0.0.beta7/lib/rugments/lexers (or whatever version of rugments you have), assuming you're on an omnibus installation. You'll need to restart gitlab to see any change.
- This is obviously not supported by anyone
- Test the procedure on a non-prod copy of gitlab
- Upgrades to gitlab will complain because it will no longer be able to automatically remove the rugments gem folder, as there's a file in place that did not come as part of the package.
Eventually this will come across natively when gitlab switches to rouge.
Glad to help - if you know much about ruby, rouge, or lexers in general, you might like to take a look at that file and try to improve it, it's my first attempt at writing a lexer and it's mostly just based on bash syntax for the moment, so it has some bugs. For example windows paths in the code make the lexer think you're trying to escape characters. Not just terrible overall but definitely annoying.
We've switched back to Rouge in e6feb987, and this should have Powershell support.
