Error 500 when I try to edit and update a Merge Request

GitLab shows Error 500 page when I edit a merge request and try to save the changes.

This errors occurs when the parameter : Approvals required is 1 and the project default value of this parameter is equal to 1.

I can confirm this behavior as well. We are running the latest version.

Same problem here using gitlab.com

I think this issue will be fixed via #18946 (closed) in 8.9.1. We're aiming to update this weekend.
