Project search doesn't work

Steps to reproduce:

• On this page, type something in the search box.
• Hit enter.

Expected results: we are taken to the search page.

Actual results: nothing happens! Clicking on an item in the dropdown does work, however.

/cc @lbennett - it looks like https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab-ce/merge_requests/4781 touched some of this recently, but I don't see what in there would break it.

Bonus (related?) bug: if you type something in the search field, then clear the field with the 'x' button, the button doesn't disappear like it should:
