simplify update procedure

Hi,

we are running gitlab 7.0

to update to the latest version is quite hard. we have to do it for each incremental version

there are a lot of users that face this problem.

please create an export/import functionality that would be compatible with at least gitlab 7.0

the export/import functionality should be able to export all related data, not just the repositories (like users, permissions, etc)

for convenience, the export should create a single file

hi, we use a package from bitnami that we have installed on our servers.

yes, we plan to update to latest version but that is currently such a hard work for us.

an export/import utility that would know how to handle from what version to what version we upgrade would totally help the community and ensure most users will be able to benefit the latest features you roll out

I think you are referring to a backup and restore process that would make it possible to backup on one version and restore on a later version of GitLab?

you release a new version every month! in a big enterprise we can not keep the pace of your release workflow so we update, maybe once a year!
