Hi thank you for your feedback. Our fixed content width is useful for better readability.
If the content will be to wide. Some users will have a hard time focusing on the text because it makes difficult to define where the content starts and ends.
I also think Content width should be Fixed for better readability but perhaps we can add a sidebar presenting useful Information on some Pages if whitespace is available
@swiffer thank you for your feedback, yeah I'm also thinking about something like this. From other hand people with 13' displays will never see that :)
Indeed. This is only an issue on screens with high resolutions. (higher than 1280x1024)
Most people still don't have a higher resolution at work. (At home it looks different 😉 )
Guys think about this like a foundation for bigger things, it's not like design for design, it will be something that I believe everyone will enjoy to use.
I'm constantly working on 27" iMac 5k, and having those bards is killing whole purpose (except retina one ;-)) of this display.
@sashk Reading full width text on 27" is actually not best experience. Thats why many blogs (like Medium) limit width of text content.
We took 1200px content width limit as good compromise between readability and enough space for UI.
Talking about purpose of 27" I use half of screen for browser with GitLab and another half of screen for editor or another tools.
Reading full width text on 27" is actually not best experience.
Nobody talks about text, but viewing attached plots, graphs and so on – is very useful to have view as wide as possible. In version 8 they will be very narrow. Notes will have them even more narrower.
What can fix the problem, is clicking on image opens it's large preview as layer on the issue, not into the new window or something like that...
