Don't know how to build task 'backup:show_secrets'

I'm attempting to upgrade my Gitlab (with CI) to 8.0, using the migration guide here: http://doc.gitlab.com/ce/migrate_ci_to_ce/README.html, however when I reach the step about exporting the secret, I get the following:

I'm not sure where to go from here, so for now I'm rolling back.

I also have the same problem.

Side note, when trying to create a backup I get permission denied in /var/opt/gitlab/gitlab-ci/builds

This install was originally manual installed deb packages then moved to Omnibus

I see that this task was added just 9 hours ago so it will be part of a patch release that is coming soon.

You can run gitlab-ci-rake -T | grep backup and confirm that the show_secrets task is missing.

Same problem here

I'm not sure the risks involved, but simply skipping that step appeared to work, at least all my previous builds are accessible, and new ones run. No idea if I'm asking for disaster down the road.

This task was available for me - after migration ...

Just get the secrets manually (by installation from source)

$ cat /home/gitlab_ci/gitlab-ci/config/secrets.yml

and copy the content to

$ /home/git/gitlab/config/secrets.yml

I think, the next step is wrong. It should be

$ cd /home/gitlab_ci/gitlab-ci
$ sudo -u gitlab_ci -H bundle exec rake backup:create

Status changed to closed

This is fixed in 8.0.1, so I'm closing.

I have a standard Omnibus installation. Both gitlab and gitlab-ci run on the same internal server. I updated from 7.12.2 to 8.0.2, but am stuck migrating CI on the Database encryption key Step per http://doc.gitlab.com/ce/migrate_ci_to_ce/README.html:

The rake backup:show_secrets command appears to be available.

There appears to be a secret in /var/opt/gitlab/gitlab-ci/etc/secret. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

This is a very different issue than what we were having. I'd suggest opening a new issue for it. That said, I'd start by seeing if you can find the config/secrets.yml file from that access denied message, and check it's permissions. It should be somewhere under /opt/gitlab
