Cycle Analytics -> Plan is loading forever

Summary

Plan tab on Cycle Analytics page is loading forever.

Steps to reproduce

1. Open https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab-ce/cycle_analytics.
2. Click to Plan tab.
3. Take a look at the spinner and no data coming.

Expected behavior

Relevant data should be rendered.

Actual behavior

There's an infinite spinner, no data.

@blackst0ne I can reproduce. It took a good minute for the response and then the results simply weren't rendered

@markglenfletcher I think could be similar to https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab-ce/issues/22940 and related to https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab-ce/issues/22940 - but we'll have to double-check that it's the backend JSON what's taking time.

In any case, I think @alfredo1 would be the best person to look into this. There's a WIP backend MR - https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab-ce/merge_requests/7743 but it needs a frontend change...

Just to add to the conversation, running GitLab Community Edition 8.16.2 8829bf18 (slightly outdated), but I get this error when I click the Plan stage in the dev console:

TypeError: e.author is null

Running Firefox 51.0.1

@jameslopez I'll add additional value checking on the JS so the error @wspurgin is reporting doesn't happen again independently if the JSON is missing some value or not.
