Add a summarized graphs/activity page with more info than just commits.

Requested feature

This is a low priority request, as stated by the customer. They would like to be able to see a view similar to GitHub's Pulse view, where the user can see of summarized view of the latest activity on a given period of time, not just commits, but merge request issues, etc.

One user requested something more like the "Pulse" feature on GitHub. I can see some advantages of it: you can pick a different time frame (max 1 month, though); committers are live links to their profile pages; info about committers' activity is more compact; it includes info about pull requests and issues.

Concrete questions / Next steps

@JobV what do you think about adding such a page to GitLab?

@patricio maybe we can integrate it with / expand the activity view? We'd need a summary and the option to only view a certain period, but then we're pretty close already.

That could very well work. What the customer would like to see is a better way to see activity. I'm sure @skyruler can come up with a very nice solution if we decide to implement this. @JobV Since this is low priority, do you think scheduling for 8.4 makes sense?

I don't want to promise this yet. To have a pulse makes sense, but it should be very clean.

At the very least, I'd like to hear @dzaporozhets opinion.

@JobV I would not make it our priority for next 3 releases since we really need to improve a lot of stuff in current UI. I like your proposal extending activity page with time filter and optional summary stats. I think we can get some nice solution out of this

Okay, so we already have the activity view.

I propose that we make the activity more powerful. By doing two things.

1. Add data / statistics to the activity view.
2. Add the option to restrict to a certain time, so from: x to: y.

We could implement these separately. Both are not trivial to make fast / efficient, so we should make sure to take enough time for this.

@patricio @dzaporozhets what do you think? If OK, @patricio can you split it up in two separate issues? We can schedule the first for 8.5 (maybe both)

@JobV Can we assign this to a milestone, please? I think it's been forgotten.

FWIW, the user who was requesting improvements in this area is a manager who is looking to produce reports about his teams and projects. He says "My ultimate goal is to get the number of commits to [project], by engineer, in a time period." This request came in 2014, when MRs were less used than they are now. I imagine that would also be useful data, since his project(s) do use MRs. A means of scripting this would actually suit his purposes best, as he could produce regular reports in an automated fashion.
