Asciidoc files fail to render images

When I add an image to an Asciidoc file in GitHub, the image is rendered when I browse to that file in GitHub. However, when I use the same syntax in GitLab, it does not render. I only see the caption.

Are there plans to fix this issue?

No, this one (#3460 (closed)) and #4280 (moved) are different issues.

To demonstrate the problem, view an AsciiDoc file that includes an image in GitHub: https://github.com/sgilda/playground/blob/master/about-windup.adoc

Notice the image renders when you view the page.

Copy these files to the same structure for a GitLab repository:

about-windup.adoc
images/windup-logo-large.png

Merge them to the GitLab and browse to the file. The image does not render. Only the alternate text appears.

I also experience the same problem with images. The more general description of it is:

AsciiDoc renderer of gitlab can't handle relative paths to images.

Workaround: use absolute paths, but this then fails if you fork a project or in cases you do merge requests, etc.

As you said, absolute paths are very bad idea and not workable. That would only fix the path for one branch of one repo and break the path for the distributions of the files.

I can't reproduce it.
