Brainstorm: Focus Dashboard

This is a brainstorm for a new feature / addition. Feedback and comments welcome

Right now, if you want to see what you have to do / review / approve, you can do so by going to the appropriate view / project and filter. This is not fast, nor focused on you.

I propose we design a dashboard view that shows what is waiting for you:

• To review MRs assigned to you
• To do Issues assigned to you and your open MRs
• To Approve (EE) Approvals waiting for you

It should be a good looking, single list (possibly with tabs).

This is separate from Notifications, where you get all your updates on latest activity.

Optionally, this can be part of the Notification center, where you have on one hand the things you still need to reply to / read an update (any notification) and on the other hand the current issues as proposed above.

Thing that I really lack at gitlab - possibility to see read/unread notifications (like on github). It will be great, if i will be able to view this on new dashboard (but it's ok if it will be added to "activity" tab).

Overall dashboard idea is cool, but the problem is much deeper. It is not only dashboard, or notifications. We don't even have these simple things like to check issues/requests you're mentioned in, or subscribed to from the system , but not by email.

Dashboard is not an easy task, I just ask everyone to think twice before trying to solve GitLab interface problems by pushing them to dashboard.

About idea:

I find myself clicking between issues and merge request lists quite often. So I would like to have a single place where I can see:

• authored merge requests (I created and assigned to someone for review or merge)
• assigned merge requests (People assigned merge requests to me for review or merge)
• assigned issues (What I am working on right now or should do in closest time)

Ideally it would be nice to see progress bar for current milestone on this page too but it requires more thinking.

About implementation:

All this information exists in sidebar navigation (Issues, Merge requests). So it should be a page where all information is visible immediately. No clicks.

@dzaporozhets is it only milestone related? if so it may work.

But @JobV wants to ship notifications first. So we have extra time to think on it. Should we assign some milestone not the issue not to lose it @JobV ?

@creamzy as a manager I want to see how current milestone is going as part of overview page. However regular developer might not be interested in that.

I think that a 'respond to' notification system offers the same as what is described in this issue.

Is issue/tasks closing approval supported in CE/EE?
