Remove “GitLab” from the start of the new breadcrumb
Description
Currently, in the new navigation, the breadcrumb starts with “GitLab”, which links to the “Your projects” page. The intention of having this link was to reinforce the information hierarchy. However, as a couple of people noted in #32794 (closed), this link is unnecessary, as the logo on the top left corner of the header serves this purpose, as a common design pattern.
Furthermore, previous research points to users relying on the tanuki symbol to go back to the “start/homepage”:
- In https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/ux-research/issues/3, the tanuki was centered on the header: “Users do not realise that the tanuki is interactive and will take them to their default dashboard when clicked”
- In the follow-up research, https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/ux-research/issues/5), the tanuki was left aligned: “Increase in interaction with the tanuki. Users commented that they expected the tanuki to take them ‘home’ to their personal dashboard.”
- And in the research of the new navigation, https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/ux-research/issues/7: “When attempting to find ‘Explore Projects’, 7/12 users interacted with the tanuki during the task.”
