Currently on the global dashboard it's not that easy to see your personal projects.
We have:
If you want to see your personal projects you currently have 2 options:
click on you avatar and then on the tab personal projects
requires 2 extra clicks and is not intuitive
star your own projects
requires extra clicks as well and mixes your personal projects with projects that you like
Both of them require extra work from the user.
I propose to add a tab Personal Projects to the dashboard and rename Your Projects to Contributed Projects like we did on the profile page.
@JobV I don't offer to add groups/activity. It's only about projects. But your projects and contributed projects are different things, so we can't really just rename it.
I am not sure how we can position your projects to make it clear what it is.
ah, @creamzy I like the proposal of contributed vs. personal. Although that would leave out any projects you're a member of and didn't contribute to, though.
I am not sure about idea. Why its important to distinguish personal and contributed projects on dashboard? For example I usually click or search particular project on dashboard without care which group it belong.
On profile page separation makes sense to me:
I know if person contribute to GitLab or any open source project
I know if person has popular personal projects
But on dashboard I don't want to think if project I am looking for is my personal or contributed
We can offer subdivision inside Your Projects : Personal Projects and Projects you're in, and maybe move personal projects on top. In general UI is already there with grouping things inside lists, so it can work. @JobV@dzaporozhets
We can add tab Personal Projects, and rename Your Projects to Projects You're in, but it will also involve renaming Your Groups.
We can leave as it is because it also make sense to search for something related to a person on this person's profile. And to use Starred on the dashboard to access to whatever projects you want.
@dzaporozhets as @JobV said, there is no way to easily find your personal projects on that page.
Another possible option would be to add a dropdown to the filter input field with some options like:
said, there is no way to easily find your personal projects on that page.
@haynes yes and its ok if we have different page that solves this problem (profile page). Adding extra tab does not work for me and other people who don't care. Dropdown in search is ok for me as long as it use all projects as default.
@haynes as `i understood your personal problem was extra clicks, filter is extra clicks, why not to use Starred ?
@creamzy no. The main problem is that there is no intuitive way to see your personal projects.
They are in the list under "your projects" somewhere, but there is no way to only display those on the page.
Which new user would think of starring or visiting his profile first when he already sees some of his personal projects?
Regarding using starred: as I wrote in the issue description:
This requires the user to visit every personal project and star them.
It is not very intuitive and it mixes your personal projects with projects you like.
yes and its ok if we have different page that solves this problem (profile page).
Yes we have that page. But new users don't know that.
