Recognition and reputation for OSS contributions
An organization is collaborating with GitLab to better understand what incentives would increase OSS contributor retention, specifically an awards scheme.
They have proposed two types of awards that should be tested in both a public
and private
variant.
- reaction tally
- Version 1:
👍 reactions only - Version 2:
👍 and👎 reactions
- Version 1:
- badge
Proposal: reaction tally
Reaction emoji (e.g.
A tally of the top reactions for the last 30 days to your comments, issues and merge requests, shown on your profile page.
For some users the tally would be private, for others it would be public.
- API: user reaction tally for time period
- Profile page: show reaction tally
- Notification: method to notify subset of users the feature exists
Future ideas: top contributor badge
A badge shown next to top contributors on comments, issues and merge requests.
In these mockups I've used the term Hero
instead of SuperPeer
(proposed by organization).
For some users the badge would be private, for others it would be public.
