We'd like to ask you to help us out and determine whether this issue should be reopened.
If this issue is reporting a bug, please can you attempt to reproduce on the latest version of GitLab or GitLab.com, to help us to understand whether the bug still needs our attention.
If this issue is proposing a new feature, please can you verify whether the feature proposal is still relevant.
@dimitrieh It is correct behavior for now, but we may want to add feature that allows to load more uses to a dropdown (or something similar, with better usability).
@grzesiek thanks for letting me know. I believe I asked this issue myself once. Therefor I would like to reopen this issue @markglenfletcher
This is an issue for public projects like gitlab-ce. So before we get in new functionality I would like to update the feedback on the current behaviour from:
@dimitrieh: Just so I understand, is the proposal to change the hint text on the search input field from 'Search authors' to 'Search authors (only members)'? Would it make sense to be more simple, and just have the hint text say 'Search members'? Thanks!
@awhildy yep, as an way of offering better feedback to the user as this functionality is the way it is now (being limited) because of performance issues (imagine the system has to scour through all people that ever contributed to gitlab-ce)
Would it make sense to be more simple, and just have the hint text say 'Search members'? Thanks!
I agree it would be nice to have that sentence simplified.. mmh maybe it still could... although I think I prefer it to be: "Search authors (members)", as authors is then still referenced in the hint text.. I think I would be fine with either.. the feedback is most important
