Notifications distract from reading/writing new messages

For people in a lot of chatrooms, the notifications appear often and they take their space for a long time making hard for the user to read the incoming message or to write a new message. The only way is to wait for the notifications to disappear but still its an issue as more of notifications appear. Sometimes, I have to wait more than 10 seconds(I get a lot of notifications). In the below screenshot, you can find that it blocks my text area blocking me to see the message I write.

I suggest that just like we use a mark to display the unread messages on the right of the channel or the user name, we can use a similar approach to indicate notifications by showing a icon on the left of the channel name, but the difference is that notification marker should go away in less than 2 seconds and add up to the count displayed in the right.

Or we can make sure that the notifications won't stay long as they do currently. Another way to solve this would be make sure that the notifications never go close to the message textarea.

You can use the browser desktop notifications which don't cover the chat area directly. Just refresh the page and allow permsision.

You can also adjust your notification settings to "Announcements" so that you only get notifications when someone mentions you or @/all is used. "Announcements" will still track unreads so you know when there has been activity.
