= key on external keyboard doesn't work on any vi

When pressing = on external keyboard in vi, new line is appended with an X. = on internal keyboard works fine.

No abnormalities observed when using Mac OSX's terminal.

Used all three keys preset (xterm, xterm w/ keypad, terminal.app compatibility) and observed no difference.

Do you have anything funny in your .vimrc that I might need to debug this?

I don't, this is happening on vi on local, any ec2 instances, vagrant, just anywhere...

Looks like the system thinks you're pressing = on the numeric keypad. I've seen it happen before that this flag is set incorrectly, but I don't know why it happens. Does your keyboard have a numeric keypad? Does pressing a key on it help get this bit unstuck?

Pressing something on the numeric keypad makes makes it behave correctly again!

If you ever figure out what causes this let me know, but I'm chalking this up to a keyboard/OS bug for now.
