paste is getting garbled somehow

• iTerm2 version 214
• OS version Mavericks

When pasting in some iTerm windows, the paste gets garbled. The output isn't random but made from bits and pieces from the clipboard.

What's really odd is that this doesn't show up when I'm pasting into vi, but rather a multi-line <<eof like so:

echo <<eof

What's doubly-odd is if I ssh to a remote box, I can echo <<eof with the same paste and it works. In other words it has to be the local machine.

PS: Terminal.app works fine. Same shell

This is a bug in bash. You should be able to paste if you reduce the speed lightly. Do Edit > Paste Special > Paste Slower until the problem is resolved.

Keeping open for 3.1 to consider reducing the default paste speed.

Yes, but it's excruciatingly slow and terminal.app doesn't have this problem.

You should look into zsh. Way more useful than bash. I would love to have better iTerm zsh integration.

I fail to see how this could be a bug in the shell if I can paste in terminal.app with no issue.

In fact, I've never had this issue with any unix terminal emulator going back to the late 80s.

I'm experiencing the same issue.

Tried pasting block in paste1.txt and it executed in a garbled fashion as seen in history1.txt (files attached).

I believe zsh uses readline, so it probably suffers from the same issue. Commit ef04cf04 reduces the default paste speed to 44kb/sec. You can get the same by selecting Edit > Paste Special > Paste Slower. Note this is different than Paste Slowly, which is unbearably slow. Paste Slower reduces the overall speed by about half, which is still pretty quick.

Is this bug noted anywhere else? Weird that it would only affect iTerm and no other terminal emulator on the planet

If true that's really lame. Kinda defeats the whole purpose of having input streams.

Honestly, I wonder how long it will take before we evolve past this 1969 technology

For the record, zsh does not use readline. zsh uses it's own ZLE, http://zsh.sourceforge.net/Doc/Release/Zsh-Line-Editor.html

If I build zsh from source I cannot reproduce the bug :(. Either Apple is building it with some non-default configuration options (I can't tell which; --version does not report configure switches) or this bug was already fixed zsh-side and Apple's code is ancient.
