Trigger on changes to variables

a quick question (if time permits). Currently iTerm2 can trigger on text. Is there a way to create a trigger (to run scripts) based on session.variables? So each time a specific condition is right, a script would trigger. One nice example is automatic triggering of certain scripts when one visits certain paths (a sort of shell folder actions, khm path actions).
