Trigger to change window title

A trigger to change the window title would be amazing. I have tried to do this and was able to sort of get it working by running a coprocess and doing echo 'printf "\\033]0;$HOSTNAME\\007"\n' but I really hate that showing in the terminal as a command that has been ran. It would be much better if it was built into iterm.

@gnachman It would be great if we could also disable being able to echo those characters into the terminal to change it. This would prevent it from being modified by anything other than iTerm's triggers.

That's really hard to do. Maybe a custom escape sequence, which I'd like to add support for, would solve this issue?

@gnachman I'm not familiar with how the escape sequences work to change the title. But I would think adding a setting to just ignore that escape sequence would be the easiest option. Adding the ability to have a custom escape sequence could be cool too. But I would think it wouldn't be complete without both.

If you'd like to prevent an escape sequence from changing the title you can turn off Prefs > Profiles > Terminal > Terminal may set tab/window title.

@gnachman So is this expected to be part of part of 3.1 release now? Also just to clarify is it going to be an explicit trigger action to set title?

The coprocess approach isn't great for my current usecase as the trigger occurs as part of a blocking process thats running and thus the command never gets executed(just gets printed to the terminal). Running as user-command action expectedly does not work. So currently I use the badge set to a variable which I set from the trigger and that works fine. Would certainly be great to instead use the window title for the same.

Yes, this will be in 3.1 and is presently in the nightly build. It is an explicit trigger to set the session's title, which is reflected in the window title when it is active.
