reopen because I encountered a related bug. In normal README.txt files, newlines and multiple spaces are both converted to a single space when rendering them on the file tree page. Shouldn't they be rendered the same way they would be when I click them?
When the file is clicked: (actual contents)
Line 1Line 2Line with multiple spaces
On tree page:
Line 1 Line 2 Line with multiple spaces
Update: added screenshots. I'm sorry that they're in German but the contents of the file don't matter that much

Update: the tree page also uses a sans-serif font instead of the monospace font that the file page uses. I guess, for most README.txt files, monospace would be better because many of them use some simple ASCII-Art to style headings and lists.

There is an open PR https://github.com/github/markup/pull/343 That's the lib we use for markup. If it's merged, we can update and support *rmd. Might give a at the PR.
