README file not showing properly

Actually it finds the first file in a directory that starts with "readme" (case insesitive). see: https://github.com/gitlabhq/gitlabhq/blob/master/app/decorators/tree_decorator.rb#L33

reopen because I encountered a related bug. In normal README.txt files, newlines and multiple spaces are both converted to a single space when rendering them on the file tree page. Shouldn't they be rendered the same way they would be when I click them?

Update: the tree page also uses a sans-serif font instead of the monospace font that the file page uses. I guess, for most README.txt files, monospace would be better because many of them use some simple ASCII-Art to style headings and lists.

I think it's related to https://github.com/gitlabhq/gitlabhq/blob/49e73f8ac1f9b9dabc900a56e98a1cc83b40dc49/app/views/tree/_readme.html.haml#L13 It tries to render normal text files with markdown syntax

Alright, the problem was in a helper method that only accepted "README" (case sensitive and without extension) as a name for plaintext readme files

Still an issue. I have a README.Rmd file that is (for some reason) taking precedence over README.md. I'll gladly patch any .rb file to fix this.
