Installing GitLab on Ubunt, error

I am trying to install GitLab on a new server. And I am getting the following error. I am also following this tutorial: https://github.com/gitlabhq/gitlabhq/blob/master/doc/install/installation.md#2-ruby.

@tjswebdev gitlab v5.0 recommends installing gitlab with a user named git, not gitlab. Maybe the permission error is from trying to install using the gitlab user instead of git

Yeah, I think this is likely a permissions/ownership issue. I just ran into the same problem but I realized I had checked out the gitlab source as root and was trying to run bundle as the git user. chowning the directory to the git user worked for me but I was doing a fresh install, not upgrading so I had no gitlab user like OP.
