This is planned feature, GitLab team are planning to add a new API to make this possible.

Currently it takes the form of "Someone commented on an issue" but no chevron appears :-)

Been chatting with GitLab team, this is coming soon probably with v8.4 GitLab - there's an API needed to make this possible.
