View patch window content does not support special chars (ex æøå)
What steps will reproduce the problem?
- starting from a file containing string "test string", I edit it so that the string becomes "test string å" (the last char 'å' is not in the ASCII 128 chars). If I commit the file, there is no problem, GIT handles it properly.
- I open the GIT history using TortoiseGit, select the file I just changed, and activate "view patch".
- the patch view opens, but my char 'å' shows like '?'. Sure enough, if I save this file as a patch an apply it, I get either an error, or the target file is patched with wrong char '?' (depending on whether the special char is in original, edited version or both). For information, applying a Cherry pick (what is not what I want) works properly ('å' remains 'å').
What is the expected output? What do you see instead?
I expect to see 'å' where there is a 'å', instead, I see a char that looks like a '?'
What version of TortoiseGit and Git are you using? On what operating system?
Windows 8.1, TortoiseGit 2.5.0
