[Feature Request] Windows Support
Windows support. That is all.
@dglmoore notes that, with the (…admittedly vital) exception of plot and animation display, BETSE behaves as expected on Windows. That's a fairly heinous exception, however. The culprit is presumably our default Matplotlib backend for Windows: Tcl/Tk.
Hey, it seemed like a good idea at the time. The PyQt5 and PyQt4 backends are likely to yield more cross-platform joy. Changing the default Matplotlib backend on at least Windows (and possibly Linux as well) to either qt5
or qt4
may be the laziest and hence best solution.
What Else Is Broke?
Probably everything. \
- versus /
-delimited pathnames are a common pain point, so I wouldn't be astonished if something else other than Matplotlib integration is fatally broken under Windows. If you (…yes, you!) note anything suspicious, consider submitting a separate issue specific to your suspicions.
Prioritize This Harder, You
Windows support isn't a terribly high personal priority, because… well, Linux and OS X. They exist for a reason. And that reason is they rock the open-source Casbah. If you feel differently, please post angry meme lolcats in the comment section below. _Hit me with your worst ceiling cat._
Thanks, intrepid Microsoft devotees!
