"Proxy" repositories
Regarding the update issues of Firefox, I had the idea to create a "proxy" repository:
- The "proxy" repository will only contain the meta-data (and the icons, etc.)
- The apks are still at the Mozilla server
- The index.xml file will point to the download URL at mozilla.
- User can then just configure this repo.
- Optional: As a service for the users, the f-droid client could have this repo pre-configured like the guardianprojects's.
This repo could be updated automatically by either a cron-job at the f-droid servers or by a scheduled job at gitlab. In the later case the created meta-data would be uploaded to gitlab-pages as artifacts. (Details can be decided later.)
What do you think about this idea?
Questions:
- Can the index-format already contain download-URLs?
- Is the client able to handle such download-URLs?
- Would the client be able to install an .apk downloaded from a mozilla server?
- What does the proxy-repo need to provide? (e.g. key, fingerprint, etc.)
