Canvas as a tool for pre-screening candidates
We have a bottleneck in recruiting because of our size and time limitations. In September, so far, we've received 139 (inbound) applications for each 1 hire we've made in that same time. That candidate rate is higher than average for organizations with 1000+ employees. We are currently sending 24% of candidates the assessment and screening 12% of all applicants, which in September resulted in 172 screening calls scheduled (so far) which alternatively is 43 screening calls per week.
With our high applicant volume and with a small team, we could benefit from a tool that would:
- Decrease number of screening calls / week
- Increase quality and productivity of screening calls
- Decrease number of candidates asked to take part in assessment
- Improve candidate engagement and create more touch points
- Directly connect with candidates asynchronously - freeing recruiting team to engage with more applicants/candidates
A new recruiting chat tool is available that I believe we should explore in an effort to accomplish the above. Canvas uses mobile communication/sms to connect recruiters directly with candidates where they're at already - on their phones. Other orgs are starting to introduce chatbots into TA teams, but I think they lack the personalization that we hope to deliver to our candidates. Canvas seems like an interesting solution.
