Ideas to improve home page and trials
I believe we have an opportunity to improve our web presence, by focusing our messaging and more effectively driving trial registrations to SaaS and EE.
Competitive Comparison
GitLab
- Two CTA's: View Features & Explore Products. Explore Products has a table of 5 options.
- Broad vision next
GitHub
- Create an account on SaaS (private repo? -> Paid.)
- Teams features
- Business features
- Dedicated Business landing page
GitHub Enterprise
- Enterprise microsite
- Single CTA for trial
- Pick deployment method, provide guide + license key.
BitBucket
- Single CTA for trial
- "Bitbucket is the Git solution for professional teams"
Suggested GitLab Improvements
Suggested home page flow:
- Clear "Start a Trial" CTA above the fold.
- Core Git and CI value prop and differentiators
- Core Git flow differentiators
- Why integrated Git+CI is great
- Enterprise features
- Grand I2P vision
- Logos / case studies
Suggested trial flow:
- Trial CTA above the fold on home page. (Can add smaller button "or try Community Edition")
- Trial Sign Up form
- Pick SaaS or Self-Hosted (EE https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab-ee/issues/2144)
- Registration Info: Name, Email, Username (SaaS), Password (SaaS), Company (Self-Hosted), Phone (Self-Hosted)
- SaaS: Users are logged in, opportunity to offer guided start. (Import a sample project with CI)
- Self-Hosted: Download EE license key. Select deployment option for guided optimized install. (https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/omnibus-gitlab/issues/2428)
Benefits
Drive trials to EE & SaaS. Get leads, start a conversation. Learn more about them, where they are, what they need, why they are/aren't buying GitLab. Avoid going dark during CE evaluation.
Market to predominant buyer groups:
- Migrating to Git
- On Git, embracing CI
Hook them on solving the problems they have today, then amaze them with vision.
