    I have a question on 1password. I assume the majority of the GitLab team that has a Mac is already using it as an app. In that case did you guys buy it? Is GitLab paying for it?

    I think this should be added to the handbook.

  • I think that the reason we use 1password is that we can share vaults, which is not an easy task with KeePassX and similar solutions. I'm using 1password, but without using an application/extension. I simply log in to 1password to retrieve credentials that I need.

  • @axil @ernstvn I propose closing this MR without merging.

    1. We should standardize on 1password since we share team passwords through vaults.
    2. 1password is free if you add the team account according to @patricio
    3. We should add 1password support to the reasons for buying a Mac.

    This is true for team passwords, but for example the passwords for slack, gmail, gitlab.com, dev.gitlab.com are personal, so there is no need to use 1pass and this is the point of this MR. If it wasn't clear this is my fault. I'm not saying to replace 1pass.

    Personally, I cannot trust my passwords to a 3rd party service that is also closed source :/

  • @axil You're free to use something else but to prevent confusion and to encourage easy access to vaults we'll only recommend 1password to people.

    @sytses agreed :)

    Status changed to closed

  • Thanks for the considerations and I agree with the conclusion. I see that 1password has already been added in the handbook as a vote in favor of Mac.
