Howto upgrade vom gitlab-ci 7.14 to 8.x ?

hi there,

i read nearly every docu this day and i am still not sure, how this works. this doku says

You can only migrate CI data from GitLab CI 8.0 to GitLab 8.0

• but how is that working when i am currently at gitlab-omnibus-7.14 ?
• how do i get to latest ce where ci is integrated and how do i get my current ci stuff into the new latest ce version ?
• does the upgrade part of 8.X a migration of my 7.14 ci data or not ?

@michael-bladowski the procedure is described in http://doc.gitlab.com/ce/migrate_ci_to_ce/README.html, you already mentioned. Simplified it looks like:

• upgrade gitlab from 7.14 to 8.0 (the usual procedure for omnibus should work here)
• disable the CI in admin settings
• upgrade gitlab-ci from 7.14 to 8.0 (the usual procedure for omnibus should work here)
• do the CI migration (like described in the migration guide

I use the installation from source and it worked fine for me. I tried to split the upgrade procedure to several steps (e.g. run gitlab 8.0 with old gitlab-ci 7.14 or even gitlab 8.0 and gitlab-ci 8.0), without success due to several reasons. The gitlab-ci 8.0 is migration only upgrade, just to dump out the data, nothing more.

dear @artem-sidorenko, the main problem is, i don´t know what the ususal procedure is for my case. the link behind this is too general. where is the doku that explains howto:

the doku says

4. Upgrade GitLab CI to 8.0

Now upgrade GitLab CI to version 8.0. If you are using Omnibus packages,
this may have already happened when you upgraded GitLab to 8.0.

but when i upgraded from 7.09 to 8 all my gitlab-ci data was gone.
is it possible that i have manually transfer the ci data from ci to ce ?? the doku has a section: II. Moving data <--- it sounds to me that this has to be done by hand, right ?

but anyway, if manually transfering data is working, i still don´t understand the notice:

how this should be possible.

i am confused ;)
