Validate which sort options are useful
Background:
We want to validate the proposal made in https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab-ce/issues/36929
Currently, there are too many sort options that it is difficult to find the one you want. By limiting sort options to only be one-directional (ie. You cannot sort by most popular and least popular, you can only sort by most popular and navigate to the last page to view least popular), we create a list of sort options that are more scan-able and useful.
What questions are you trying to answer?
- Is it useful for users to be able to sort in both directions?
- Does navigating to the last page suffice?
- Does limiting sort options make it easier for users to find the sort they want?
Are you looking to verify an existing hypothesis or uncover new issues you should be exploring?
Verify hypothesis made in https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab-ce/issues/36929
What is the backstory of this project and how does it impact the approach?
The current sort list is too long to scan. We would need to introduce some sort of search mechanism when there are above 8 options within the dropdown. We want to limit the sort options to only the most useful ones to avoid this.
What do you already know about the areas you are exploring?
The current dropdown is too long to easily scan/find the sort option you need.
What does success look like at the end of the project?
Verify which sort options are useful to users and provide a dropdown list that covers these cases. Ensure that users can easily find the sort option that they need.
