gitlab pages on seperate server vs path settings in gitlab.rb
I am currently trying to have gitlab-pages deamon to be hosted from a seperate docker server using: https://gitlab.com/gitlab-org/gitlab-pages. Bet there is not to much info on that topic other then that it is a possible setup.
When setting gitlab_pages['dir'] = "/var/opt/gitlab/gitlab-pages" i expected 'deployed' pages content to turn up there, but instead they turn up at: /var/opt/gitlab/gitlab-rails/shared/pages
according to https://docs.gitlab.com/ee/administration/pages/index.html that is the default place and that should have altered gitlab_rails['pages_path'] = "/mnt/storage/pages"
now i wonder what the gitlab_pages['dir'] setting is for. up until now my search skill failed on me. also the pages deamon does not seem to be needing it.
Letting the gitlab-pages deamon read from the gitlab rails shared pages folder gives a working situation. So i am not sure if seperate pages path is even realy needed for what i want.
Also when setting the pages_external_url "http://pages.example.com/" the gitlab docker image starts serving pages also. My hunch is that there is a nginx setting that might prevent that. maybe: pages_nginx['enable'] = false but that might still leave the pages deamon running.
ps next challenge is https when i get http working.
