@hazelyang wouldn't it be better to show this in the right column when it's exapanded. We can do something quite small as it's not a major thing and keep it subtle.
@mydigitalself Great idea! I think we can show the message in the dropdown, so users only can see it when they intend to use Issue weight.

Edit.For other examples, e.g below, we should remember they have dismissed that particular promotion.
Agreed? If so, we should state that in each of the issues so developers are aware there needs to be some logic in some of the promotion to remember they have been dismissed.

My concern with the design here is that for people on the free plan, they will see the Weight label and the Edit button all the time, if they never choose to upgrade. So we will have useless UI, that is essentially persistent marketing UI. I don't think we've ever done this before.
If we are being consistent with the other designs in the other promotion issues, shouldn't we simply have the banner message in the sidebar show up under certain conditions. And if the user chooses to click
xon the banner, it goes away.Not sure what would be the right conditions though. Maybe the first few issues of a new project? Or maybe per user? Not certain.
Linking this burndown charts would be huge @mydigitalself . Maybe some copy to say that if you upgrade, you also get burndown charts, something like that. Or that you need weights for burndown charts.
Regarding the weight feature itself, there's been some problems in the past where users were mis-using weights to indicate priority or "business value" for a particular issue. We certainly do not want that. Because we already have labels, priority labels, issue boards, etc. for people to solve those use cases. So we should be clear that weights are for some type of resource estimation. It can be time estimation, it can be money, it can story points, it can be code complexity, etc. So wanted to be careful with whatever final copy we work with carries that notion.

I also had this concern when I created this design. After thinking twice, I think it's just like the features in the sidebar that I never use or use seldom, so it wouldn't hurt the experience or make people feel annoyed. It only appears when the user is curious about the feature or want to use the feature.
Thanks @hazelyang : Sure. Let's proceed with your design then. We can always update it if people complain. And this would be a good place anyways in GitLab to test this new UI design/paradigm of activating marketing UI on demand for lower tiers.
