UX Pain (re: chat rooms)

This is too painful!
First off, I've been using IRC for the last 15 years and Gitter is wonderful.
However my IRC client lists my chat rooms, highlighting which ones I am in and if there is new activity. A single click presents a room. Adding a room is intuitive (right click the server).
However try as I may I just cannot add a chat room (Plots.jl) to Gitter. I've managed to locate the room I want using search. But the following intuitive actions fail:
- Attempting to pin it. My eye looks for a pin. Fail. Right click on room. Fail. (see pic).
- Right-clicking in left tray. Fail.
- Clicking that '+' button at the bottom. Fail! That is about creating a new room -- an action most people will rarely if ever take. This is an "action of maximum surprise", I would really expect this to add another room.
- clicking the favourites star. Fail.
- clicking 'room settings' icon. Fail.
- bellowing blind rage at the computer. Partial success, at least I feel alive again.
Somehow I already have 3 rooms on my left hand panel. They must have got there when I was using the online Gitter. God knows how. Now I'm using Desktop.
Also very frustrating is the fact that I have to go through a secondary panel in order to highlight a new room. I want to be able to directly add rooms to the left hand panel.
Sorry to be the Buffalo here. Gitter is awesome and I do love it! But please reduce the amount of UX surprise!
