Creating new gitter room fails

1. Click around to find a way to create a room
2. Click "create room"
3. Enter room name
4. Click "create"

Note that nothing happens. The popup does not disappear and no room is created.

It's possible we don't show the error that is happening with whatever you are trying to create but we would need more specifics. What community? What is the room name? Is it supposed to be associated with anything? Is it public or private?

Most likely, there is a GitHub entity with the same name and it needs to be associated before you can create the room. You probably need to grant private repo scope or make your org membership public.
