multi-column or window display for one session/screen

I think it would be very nice to have a feature by which
iTerm2 could display a single screen in multiple columns
(or split across separate windows, tabs etc).
For example:
/-<-<-\
| ^
+-------------------+ V +----------------+
| line 1 | | | line81 |
| line2 | V | line82 |
... |
| line 79 | V | line159 |
| line80 | | | line160 |
+-------------------+ V +----------------+
^ /
-<-<-<-<-<-<-<
scrolling as indicated..
The idea is that I have a wide-screen, but would like to see more lines
than normally will fit. The application should not care that iTerm2 does this but think it has a 160xn display
In my particular use-case, I have a wide-screen, but would like to get more
vertical space in a window (curses app in this case, but every shell etc might benefit from the same).
I am undecided asyet whether the two tabs/windows/panes should allow separate session settigs (fonts, colours etc). I see no immediate benefit, but can imagine that there may be use-cases where this may be useful..
Does iTerm2 have some form of ruler indicating columns/lines on the top/bottom (and maybe left/right) of the window? Having a horizontal ruler to indicate the cursor position in both windows for this feature might help with orientation, eg when editing ASCII-graphics like mine above? (maybe only bottom on the left and top on the right screen)
