Did I miss something? Surely this issue should be re-opened.

I'd have thought a fix should involve a more robust check to see whether anything is actually attached to the socket file, rather than just a line of documentation on a way to temporarily get out of this situation, which will recur frequently.

@mc0e agreed - fair enough on an update you may have to do a bit of hacking (although if everything closes down correctly on service gitlab stop you shouldn't have to, right?), but if the computer throws a fit and needs to be rebooted (I'm having frequent but unrelated kernel panics, yay) you have the same issue.

How do other daemon/socket-based program handle this issue? Presumably as @mc0e says you check for the existence of the socket file and then whether anything's actually using it - if not, delete it and recreate.

I think that RP shouldn't been reopened after merged. Please open other issue about service gitlab stop.
