How to run Kanban as a service on Ubuntu server ?

I cant seem to find a step by step guide on running kanban as a service on a Ubuntu server without docker. Could someone please point me in the right direction please.

Check the documentation from the leanlabs website: http://kanban.leanlabs.io/docs/installation/binary.html and http://kanban.leanlabs.io/documentation/Installation-from-binary Basically you first need to install and configure redis - if it is not already. Then do the same for kanban. Both of these need to start at boot-up so will require being added as services. How this happens may be different on your *nix distro so you will need to research that (I use Cent OS6 myself and I needed to write a file and add to init.d)

Something like this will do if you place it in /etc/systemd/system/kanban.service:

After=gitlab-runner.service

WantedBy=multi-user.target

Simply run a sudo systemctl daemon-reload when you're done and you can then use it as a normal service.

Note that this is a quick and dumb service for systemd so every exit is considered as a failure and I guess other things could be optimized but well, it does what you asked for. Since you're running Ubuntu, I'm assuming systemd (I don't use Ubuntu myself, even less so on a server) but if it's not, the issues linked by @toby-mole provide init scripts.

I think restart: always should be added to the docker-compose.yml file. That would be the simplest solution IMO.
