v7.x-staging update

This is an intent of update the staging branch for v7.x

I cherry picks commits from master without the labels semver-major and dont-land-on-v7.x and ignore all commits with conflicts...

I try to find information about this part of the process(updating the staging branch) but without lucky, I ask some people in IRC and this was the recommendation, that way other people with more experience can sign off the commits. In case that this is not the correct way to update the branch, please go ahead and close the PR.
